Kefalonia Day 4. Monday 22nd May 2017.
We spent some time at the Villa chilling and catching some rays in the morning. Breakfast usually finished at 1000hrs. Whilst the ladies sunbathed we men went for a walk down the hill, to the Taverna and turned left up to the old ruined church. This area is known as Old Skala. It was decimated in the 1953 earthquake which ruined numerous villages on the island. It was that bad that the villagers upped sticks and started a new town down on the coastline. At least there you won't get a boulder running into you if another Quake took hold. Evidence lay all around of old buildings but man and mother nature had cleared a lot away.
Mandy, the Vintage Holidays Rep visited at 1300hrs. Very helpful very bubbly. We offered her a glass of vino which she accepted. An hour or more later she was still there. Jackie out of politeness offered her another. She accepted. Another hour, or so it seemed passed before she decided she was off. "If she comes back" someone said " don't offer her another wine".
We decided to have a BBQ this evening. This is always a feature of the family holidays. Usually we have two or three. Paddy is past master at Holiday BBQ's. We boys drove down into Skala for the butchers. The sirloin steak was unbelievable good quality and so cheap.
The young pretender! This was merely a "photo call" I did no cooking! |
